  • Ken Forrester on the FMC

The hardest working man in South African wine, Ken Forrester, was in town last week and took a minute to tell the story of the FMC, his top Chenin Blanc, and one of South Africa's most celebrated wines. According to Ken, the secret for Chenin Blanc, which he describes as the greatest white wine grape in the world, is that it should receive plenty of 'cool sunshine'. [flv: 300 200]

  • Leyda Riesling slays the opposition

A great result for Vina Leyda of Chile as their Neblina Vineyard Riesling 2008 came top in a blind tasting of Rieslings from all over the world for Imbibe magazine. The tasting panel, which included such luminaries as the sommeliers of Galvin La Chapelle, Etrusca and Hakkasan, were only aware that the wines were priced between £7.50 and £30 trade, and below 10g of residual sugar, and could be from anywhere in the world. They awarded this wine the highest score overall - beating entries from many more famous regions including Alsace and Germany. Irina Atanasova of Les Deux Salons gave this note: "Alpine in style - floral, with good acidity and ripe citrus fruit, quince, apple, minerality and nuttiness."
