  • Jody Bogle

The charming Jody Bogle from the third generation of this excellent family-run winery in Clarksburg, California, was in London last week to tell us a little about how the winery came to its current size - and how Petite Sirah became their signature grape variety. • The Race for Life

Enotria CEO Alison sends us this report from Richmond Park where a group of Enotria ladies took part in the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research. As many of you will have heard we had a hugely successful time at our Race For Life in Richmond Park on Saturday with all our Enotria Wine Wenches completing the course. We brightened up a rather grey day with our extremely stylish pink t-shirts, high spirits, and lightning speed. We were encouraged along the course by our many supporters - overall it was a very uplifting occasion and I was immensely proud of the great effort that Enotria has put in to supporting this event. Thank you to everyone at Enotria, your friends and families for supporting us with donations – it is very, very much appreciated and please pass on our thanks. And we must say a huge special thank you to our Producers, many of whom gave us significant sponsorship and, financially, really made the difference to our overall fund-raising. So to the sum raised….well donations are still trickling in and at the last count our site shows we have raised over £9,500. Please help us get to our target of £10,000 and donations can be made here : www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/EnotriaWineWenchesBustServed We will then add the Enotria’s charity policy donation of up to £250 per person and the final sum will be very close to £16,000. This is a truly fantastic achievement by everyone involved. Posted by Alison

  • Henriot bags gold again - twice!

A huge result for Champagne Henriot as their delectable Rosé NV collected a gold at the International Wine Challenge and the Decanter World Wine Awards. This is a sensational double for the wine and shows its innate medal winning class. There were golds too at the IWC for Vina Falernia with their Syrah Reserva 2008, Hopler Trockenbeerenauslese 2008 and Xanadu of Western Australia for their Reserve Chardonnay.

  • When Jancis met Francis...

When the UK's leading wine writer meets a legendary Hollywood writer and film director for dinner at The Square in London, what do you think they would drink? Francis Ford Coppola is of course a renowned wine producer in his own right, but as he said to Jancis Robinson MW before their first course, "we brought only reds." So, as Jancis recounts in her article Dinner with Coppola on www.jancisrobinson.com, it was left to her to choose a suitable white wine. She says: "Serious study of The Square's wine list could have distracted me for a good hour, which would have been impolite. But I remembered a stunning bottle, actually two, of Trimbach's Clos Ste Hune Riesling 1990 that I'd enjoyed at The Square with my German editor once, so I stopped at the Alsace section and went for the same producer's 375th anniversary (get that, Napa Valley) bottling of their Cuvée Frédéric Emile Riesling 2001 that in the event had Heather swooning, and Coppola quite satisfied enough..."
