Chartreuse Green Liqueur 70cl

France
(6x70cl)

History

Produced by the Carthusians, an enclosed monastic order established by Saint Bruno of Cologne in 1084. It is based in the Chartreuse mountains in the foothills of the French Alps. In 1605 the monks received a manuscript from one of the King''s Generals detailing a recipe for the ''Elixir of Long Life''. The recipe showed how 130 plants, herbs and flowers could be macerated in alcohol to produce a medicinal elixir. Since then the monks have specialised in producing herbal liqueurs, the exact recipes for which are carefully guarded, known to just 2 monks at any one time. The most famous of these is the ''Green Chartreuse'' which was first created in 1764.
