Alma Carraovejas Achieves B Corp Certification

At Enotria&Coe, we're delighted to share some exciting news from our long-standing partners at Alma Carraovejas. They have recently achieved B Corp certification, becoming the first collective of wineries and gastronomic projects in Spain to receive this prestigious recognition. This milestone underlines their unwavering commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical governance – values that are deeply aligned with our own.

B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. For Alma Carraovejas, this certification is not simply a badge of honour but a reflection of a philosophy that has been embedded in their operations from the very beginning. Their dedication to protecting biodiversity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering rural cohesion is directly in line with our vision at Enotria&Coe.

Several of Alma Carraovejas’ winegrowing projects, including Pago de Carraovejas and Ossian Vides y Vinos, have also been certified under the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP) label. This certification recognises wineries that are committed to sustainable development across environmental, social, economic, and governance dimensions – further evidence of their deep-rooted culture of responsibility.

The certification process covered all of Alma Carraovejas’s projects: Pago de Carraovejas in Peñafiel, Ossian Vides y Vinos in Nieva, Milsetentayseis in Fuentenebro, Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo in Leiro, Aiurri in Leza, Bodega Marañones in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, the Michelin-starred Ambivium Restaurant, and their distribution arm, Alma Carraovejas Distribución.

This group-wide approach to certification demonstrates a long-standing culture of sustainability that runs through every aspect of their organisation. By integrating economic, environmental, social, human, and ethical governance dimensions into their corporate social responsibility strategy, Alma Carraovejas has set a powerful example of how to lead with purpose.

Alma Carraovejas has also implemented impactful environmental initiatives as part of this journey. They have integrated renewable energy sources into their operations, with 31% of their energy consumption coming from photovoltaic solar panels and biomass boilers. In addition, they have already achieved a 15.1% reduction in their carbon footprint and are working towards reducing CO₂ emissions by 35% before 2030 -  showing a clear and measurable path towards climate responsibility.

Their journey towards B Corp certification was guided by what they call a "fivefold income statement", which evaluates value not just in financial terms, but also in the broader context of environmental and social impact. This philosophy reflects our own belief that business success should be measured not only by profit, but by the positive contribution we make to people and the community around us, as well as the planet.

As their exclusive UK importer, we are proud to represent a producer whose commitment to sustainability mirrors our own. Alma Carraovejas’s achievement reinforces the importance of working with partners who are not only world-class in quality but who also act with integrity, responsibility, and vision.

We look forward to continuing this partnership - bringing Alma Carraovejas’s exceptional wines to our customers, while jointly advancing the principles of sustainability and ethical business that matter so deeply to us all.
