Château Climens
Château Climens is one of the most distinguished estates in Barsac, with origins dating back to the sixteenth century. Recognised as a Premier Cru in the 1855 classification, the property has passed through several families before being acquired by the Lurton family in 1974. Since 1992, the estate has been under the stewardship of Bérénice Lurton, whose deep respect for tradition and innovation has helped reinforce its reputation as the “Yquem of Barsac.”
The estate is planted exclusively to Sémillon, ideally suited to the limestone soils of Barsac. Vinification at Climens is focused on preserving purity and elegance, with minimal intervention. Selective harvesting in multiple passes ensures optimal botrytis concentration, resulting in wines of finesse and remarkable complexity. Each vintage reflects meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to expressing the unique terroir.
Château Climens is also a pioneer in sustainability and was an early adopter of organic and biodynamic viticulture. Under Bérénice Lurton’s leadership, the estate has implemented practices that foster biodiversity and reduce chemical inputs. These efforts culminated in full biodynamic certification, affirming Climens’s commitment to responsible, quality-focused viticulture.
