Les Prades
The white Picpoul variety is grown throughout southern France, but has gained a particularly strong reputation for quality in one specific area in the Languedoc – Pinet. This small appellation is situated halfway between Béziers and Montpellier, the vine’s tolerance to sandy soils making it a popular variety for the area’s coastal vineyards. Picpoul translates as ‘lipstinger’, a name which gives a clue to the lip-smacking high acidity of this variety – the fresh, crisp wines produced from the grape are an ideal accompaniment for the oysters sourced from nearby Étang de Thau.
