In the press

16/20 - Deep greyish crimson. Sweet aroma of dark fruit and oak spice. Firm, caressing, rounded, with excellent freshness to balance all that generous flavour of blueberry and blackberry, and firmly tannic. Gently chewy finish. Easy to love. Drink 2024-2028. Full bottle 1,475 g. Eight vineyards, all more than 40 years old, along the Rio Negro. A cooler than average vintage. 97% Malbec, 3% Merlot. Harvested by hand. 70% aged in French oak, including 40% new, 30% in concrete.

92/100 - A bright and juicy malbec that shows a little more fruit than the 2021. Once again, white pepper, hibiscus, dried herbs and touches of black fruit, dark cherries and blue plums. Fresh and medium- to full-bodied on the palate, with fresh, chalky tannins and a juicy, medium-long finish. Drink from 2025.

Tasting note

Purple with violet reflections. Nose: medium-high intensity, notes of red fruits. Palate: good entry, excellent freshness, hints of early-harvest raspberries. Notably fluid with natural acidity. Tannins and alcohol well integrated. Very good mouthfeel, overall structure.

Viticulture

Clasico Malbec´s grapes come from 8 vineyards located along the Río Negro river (Mainque, Cervantes, Valle Azul, Darwin, Luis Beltran). Classic soils of the Upper Valley, of alluvial origin, with loamy-clay and loamy-sandy texture. Vineyards with an average age of 40 years. High and low trellises. 5000 plants per hectare.

Vinification

Cold maceration for 48 hours. Fermentation in concrete and stainless steel tanks for approximately 12 days at 28-30°C. Manual punch-downs, gentle pump-overs, and délestage. Complete malolactic fermentation. Aging for 6 months in French oak (225-liter barrels) with 40% new barrels, 30% second-use, and 30% third-use. Bottle aging for 12+ months.

Food Match

Steak, pork, and lamb, as well as fattier fish like salmon and poultry with dark meat. Game meat—like bison, ostrich, and venison—are also a safe bet. In addition to meat pairings, consider foods with richer sauces or more vibrant flavors.
