Tasting note
Naturally sweet white from Sémillon grapes left to dessicate on the vine, this is heady with honey, pineapple and pear, with a lasting, tangy flavour of marmalade.
Viticulture
The semillon grapes are sourced from Meinert's Devon Valley property, planted at 240m above sea level, basking in the views of False Bay. Partial vine-drying of the bunches and careful selection of the finest, most concentrated raisins produces a lusciously sweet wine.
Vinification
The grapes were whole bunch pressed slowly, but at a high pressure, where the juice was then returned to the berries to soak and dissolve crystallised sugar. The grapes were pressed again the next day. Natural fermentation occured in four barrels, 50% of which were new. This wine was bottled in July 2015.
Food Match
Enjoy as an aperitif, dessert accompaniment or with an array of cheeses. This is a perfect match for apple tarte tatin, creme brulee, or for something more savoury, rich, duck liver pate or foie gras.
