In the press

This potent expression of Vinha Maria Teresa (a 4.7ha parcel) is loaded with dry extract. Sculpted beneath the corset of perfumed, kid glove oak and layers of gravelly tannin lurks a bottomless pit of black and blue berry, black currant and plum fruit. With time to breathe, the fruit melds with creamy oak and spicy liquorice and crushed coriander seed notes emerge. Glorious potential. Drinking Window 2024 - 2037.
Sarah Ahmed, Decanter.com
The 2017 Vinha Maria Teresa, aged 20 months in oak (90% French, 10% American), is a 14.5% alcohol field blend from centenarian vines. Its power is controlled, never overly astringent despite occasional burliness. With beautiful structure, it offers lively fruit and aromatics. The ripe fruit lingers on the finish. While needing time to reach its potential, it's already delicious and nuanced with plums. A great Maria Teresa in the making, it requires cellar time. Approachable later, it's a 30-year wine (2023-2045).

Tasting note

This multi-variety red from centenarian vines, created to celebrate the estate's 400th birthday and made only in outstanding vintages, is really something special: full of dark fruit, rocks and schist, with dizzying aromas of wild forest flowers, white pepper and dark chocolate.

Viticulture

Explore the historic Vinha Maria Teresa, the oldest plot at Quinta do Crasto, featuring century-old vines. Named after Constantino de Almeida's first grandchild, it produces intensely concentrated fruit for complex wines. Crafted only in the finest vintages and limited quantities, this wine embodies tradition.

Vinification

The grapes, coming from Vinha Maria Teresa, aretaken to the winery and rigorously inspected on arrival. The grapes were first foot trodden in a traditional stone tank (“lagar”) and after this, they were transferred into an open stainless steel tank with robotic pistons. Fermentation took place for 7 days under strict controlled temperature environment.

Food Match

The ideal partner for hearty beef and lamb dishes or blue cheeses.
