Molinara
A traditional grape of Valpolicella, Molinara has long played a secondary role in blends, valued for its bright acidity and pale color. Light-bodied and fresh, it offers delicate red berry notes—cranberry, red currant, and pomegranate—alongside a subtle herbal undertone. Once essential in Amarone and Ripasso wines, its plantings have declined in favor of richer, more structured varieties like Corvina and Rondinella. However, some producers are rediscovering its potential, showcasing its refreshing, almost rosé-like character in single-varietal wines. While rarely the star, Molinara remains an important contributor to Veneto’s complex and historic red blends.
