Vernaccia
Best known for Vernaccia di San Gimignano, this historic Italian white grape produces crisp, mineral-driven wines with notes of citrus, green apple, and bitter almond. Naturally high in acidity, it offers excellent aging potential, developing complex honeyed and nutty nuances over time. While San Gimignano’s Vernaccia is the most famous, other varieties exist, such as Vernaccia di Oristano, which is used in oxidative, sherry-like wines from Sardinia. Often overlooked in favor of more popular Italian whites, high-quality Vernaccia is elegant, food-friendly, and deeply tied to Tuscany’s winemaking heritage.
