Château d'Issan

Château d’Issan is a historic Margaux estate, classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. With origins dating back to the Middle Ages, it is reputed to have been served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet. Over the centuries, it has held a place in the cellars of European nobility, including The Prince of Wales and Emperor Franz-Joseph of Austria. Today, the estate continues to honour its prestigious legacy under modern stewardship, producing wines known for both refinement and tradition.

Situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château d’Issan’s vineyards benefit from deep gravel soils ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate places a strong emphasis on precision viticulture and plot-by-plot vinification to preserve the character of each parcel. Wines are aged in French oak barrels and noted for their elegance, depth, and aromatic complexity. A distinguishing feature is the estate’s consistent stylistic focus on balance and finesse over raw power, making its wines both age-worthy and approachable.
