Patricius
While Tokaji is on the same latitude as the cool-climate Chablis region in France, the central European location of this Hungarian region means it enjoys a much warmer climate. It's thanks to this, along with the influence of the Tisza and Bodrog rivers, that the area experiences the perfect conditions for noble rot. Patricius came to be after Hungarian exile, Deszö Kékessy, returned to Tokaji and acquired 150 hectares of vineyard after building a successful business in Switzerland. The attention to detail at Patricius is breathtaking: re-planting and even re-orienting rows of vines where necessary, and upholding admirable standards of perfection in both their vine-growing and winemaking endeavours. This dedication and passion pays off in spades, with wines that display exquisite elegance and class, complex fruit and honey flavours, minerality and rapier-like acidity.
