The grape that much of the world calls Carignan, Mazuelo, here offers a herbaceous, liquorice-scented wine, with plums and mature red fruits in the mouth and a savoury flourish of balsamic on the finish.
Viticulture
Lopez's Ulterior wines blend ancient practices with a modern ethos for climate resilience. Exclusive first vintages from the organically certified estate, with oak and clay. Highest-scoring La Mancha wines, redefining the region with elegance. Vineyard: limestone, 30-40cm above chalky stratum at 3m depth, 2777 plants density, Doble Cordon 24-bud pruning.
Vinification
All Ulterior wines, including this hand-picked gem, embrace ancient techniques. Fermented in open 340L barrels, undergoes malolactic fermentation, 6 months in French oak, and a further 6 in clay vats. Limited to 9000 bottles, it undergoes no clarification or filtration for maximum character. Minimal sulfur is added at bottling to ensure the wine's integrity.
