Tasting note
From the only vineyard for Kerner, a Riesling cross-breed, in Australia, this has a tangy bouquet of grapefruit and herbs and a mouthful of citrus juice and lemon peel.
Viticulture
From Northern Eden Valley's esteemed Fechner Bros. vineyard, the only Kerner vines in Australia thrive adjacent to a limestone quarry. Discovered during a 2003 German visit, these vines grow through clay into limestone bedrock, enhancing aromatic impact. Planted on an east-facing slope, the vineyard adopts a light-handed disease control approach.
Vinification
The Kerner is handpicked, gently pressed, and fermented on gross solids in a temperature-controlled stainless steel fermenter. Indigenous and selected yeasts are used for delicate aromas. No fining agents are used, and minimal SO2 is added. The wine retains 7.1g/L of natural grape sugar, emphasizing its textural nature.
Food Match
The texture from this Kerner wants flavour, a snapper curry or a delightful Moroccan Tagine are dream accompaniments.
