Tasting note
Vibrant cool-climate Chardonnay from Tasmania, aromatic with lemon zest, flint and hazelnut, with a soft note of lemon curd on the tongue.
Viticulture
The inaugural Stargazer Chardonnay sourced from our friends, the Semmens at Marion’s Vineyard (Tamar Valley) and Gerald Ellis’s renowned Meadowbank Vineyard (Derwent Valley). Marion’s, a picturesque vineyard since 1980, overlooks the Tamar River, while Meadowbank, planted in '87 with Penfolds clone, delivers exceptional fruit. Both vineyards are cane-pruned.
Vinification
Handpicked and whole bunch pressed to one, two and three year old French oak puncheons for fermentation by indigenous yeast. Post primary ferment, there was partial MLF but no lees stirring. The wine spent eight months in oak and two months in tank prior to bottling.
Food Match
The vibrancy of this wine would be perfect with the freshness of a salmon gravlax or salmon sashimi.
