Tasting note
A vibrant lifted nose of wild raspberries and roasted blueberries is married with a fresh and crunchy palate and long soft tannins. Translucent red fruits are the hallmark of this wine, supported by a savoury, spicy notes from the Meunier component and fresh cherry pip acidity on the finish.
Viticulture
Sourced from the Piper’s Brook region in the NE of the island. Meunier is a clonal mutation of Pinot Noir and is recognised viticulturally for its delicate web of white hairs on the underside of its leaves – resembling a fine dusting of flour. The Pinot Noir comes from a north facing Coal River Valley vineyard planted to various clones.
Vinification
Meunier harvested in two picks, varying ripeness. Meunier destemmed, 25% Pinot Noir as whole bunches. Cold soaked 3 days, wild ferment (indigenous yeasts) for 7 days, basket pressed. Aged 5 months in older French oak puncheon barrels on fine lees before bottling.
Food Match
A classic pairing would be a charcuterie board, but this would also be perfect with a Mediterranean-style salad with feta and pomegranate seeds.
