Cesanese
One of Lazio’s hidden gems, Cesanese is a structured yet elegant red offering sour cherry, rose petal, and dried herbs. With firm tannins and high acidity, it has often been compared to Nebbiolo, though it carries a more rustic, earthy charm. Historically a favorite of the Roman elite, it fell out of favor but is now experiencing a revival. Some versions are bright and fruit-driven, while others lean toward more complex, aged expressions with spice and tobacco notes. A perfect match for Italian cuisine, Cesanese pairs beautifully with pasta, roasted meats, and hard cheeses.
