Clairette
A traditional white grape of southern France, Clairette is best known for its role in Rhône blends and sparkling Clairette de Die. It produces aromatic wines with notes of green apple, pear, and wildflowers, often with a slightly herbal, anise-like character. Naturally low in acidity, it is sometimes blended with high-acid grapes to maintain balance. When made in a sparkling style, it retains a refreshing, lively quality, while still wines can be rich and textured. Widely planted in the Rhône, Provence, and Languedoc, Clairette is an important yet often overlooked variety that contributes freshness and complexity to Mediterranean whites.
