Colombard
Originally from southwestern France, Colombard is a high-acid white grape traditionally used in Cognac and Armagnac production. In modern winemaking, it produces crisp, citrusy whites with flavors of green apple, grapefruit, and white peach, often with a subtle floral touch. Once widely planted in California for bulk wines, quality-focused producers now highlight its bright, refreshing nature in single-varietal bottlings. In France, it remains important in Côtes de Gascogne, where it contributes zest and liveliness to blends. Though historically underrated, Colombard is enjoying renewed appreciation for its vibrant, easy-drinking character, making it a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc.
