Fernão Pires
Portugal’s most widely planted white variety, Fernão Pires (also known as Maria Gomes) is a fragrant, early-ripening grape bursting with floral and citrus aromas. Orange blossom, ripe pear, and tropical fruit dominate the palate, often with a slightly honeyed texture. Best enjoyed young, it thrives in the Tejo and Bairrada regions, where careful winemaking balances its natural exuberance with fresh acidity. Occasionally oaked for added complexity, it can also produce sparkling and sweet wines. A lively, aromatic white that embodies Portugal’s sun-kissed charm.
