Prugnolo Gentile
A distinguished clone of Sangiovese, Prugnolo Gentile is the primary grape in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Tuscany’s historic red wine. It shares Sangiovese’s bright acidity and firm tannins but tends to be slightly softer, with more pronounced red berry and floral aromas. Cherry, plum, dried herbs, and hints of tobacco characterize its flavor profile, with age bringing additional layers of earth and spice. Less austere than Brunello’s Sangiovese Grosso, it offers a balanced, elegant expression of Tuscan terroir. Traditionally aged in large oak barrels, it produces structured yet graceful wines with excellent aging potential.
