Tinta Roriz
Portugal’s name for Tempranillo, Tinta Roriz is a key component in both Port wines and dry reds from the Douro and Dão regions. It brings structure, red fruit, and spice to blends, often with firm tannins and a long finish. Compared to Spain’s Tempranillo, it tends to be slightly more robust and tannic, benefiting from oak aging. In blends, it complements the floral and rich qualities of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Though rarely seen as a varietal wine in Portugal, its role in shaping the country’s red wine identity is undeniable.
