Touriga Franca
One of the most important grapes in Port wine production, Touriga Franca (formerly known as Touriga Francesa) contributes floral aromatics, elegance, and structure to Douro blends. Compared to Touriga Nacional, it is lighter in tannins but still offers deep color, fresh acidity, and flavors of blackberry, plum, and violets. In dry red wines, it provides balance and finesse, often softening the boldness of more powerful varieties. Highly adaptable to Portugal’s rugged terroir, it thrives in hot, dry conditions, maintaining freshness even in warm vintages. Essential to both fortified and still wines, Touriga Franca plays a crucial role in Portugal’s viticultural identity.
