Sutherland
After establishing Thelema Mountain Vineyards as one of the icon South African wine estates, Gyles Webb embarked on a new challenge in the early 2000s; to develop a range of cool climate, site-specific, small volume wines. Following a long search, Gyles discovered a small apple orchard in the Elgin Valley, and Sutherland Vineyards was born. Elgin is uniquely set on a high plateau surrounded by four mountain ranges and situated just 9km off the Atlantic Ocean, creating the ideal growing conditions for cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and lighter styles of Cabernet. One can expect wines of vibrancy, linearity and modernity.
