Bodega Maranones
Marañones was founded by Fernando Cornejo in 2008 as one of the true pioneers of the Gredos Garnacha movement. Sitting 80km west of Madrid, the region does not (yet!) have a formal appellation, and its identity is still being shaped by collaborations with talented winemakers, such as that with Fernando Garcia, who has since gone on to found cult winery Comando G. Marañones. The winery was founded on twin commitments to minimal intervention and to sustainability, in a bid to preserve the mosaic of soil types, aspects and altitudes that are a winemaker's dream come true. In the winery, they favour larger vessels that allow the unadulterated, granitic character of the fruit to sing. When Fernando Cornejo announced his retirement, Alma Carraovejas bought the estate in 2020 and will continue to champion the sustainable mission.
